- Extraction, If Needed: Any remaining failing teeth are removed at the same visit, so there’s no separate extraction appointment before treatment begins.
- Implant Placement: Your Implant Surgeon places the implants according to your treatment plan, whether that calls for a removable overdenture or a fixed bridge.
- Temporary Restoration: For fixed restorations, Photogrammetry technology captures the exact position of each implant, and a temporary bridge is secured before you leave. For removable overdentures, a temporary denture is fitted so you have a functioning arch right away.
- Healing Period: The implants integrate with your jawbone over roughly eight to 12 weeks, during which your temporary restoration keeps you functioning normally.

Caring for Your Implant-Supported Dentures
Day-to-day care looks different depending on which option you have, since one comes out and one doesn’t.
Caring for Removable Overdentures
- Remove the overdenture nightly to give your gums and implants a rest, and to clean both the appliance and the attachment sites underneath
- Brush the overdenture with a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive cleaner made for dentures, never regular toothpaste, which can scratch the surface
- Clean around the implant attachments with a soft brush or interdental brush to prevent buildup that can affect how securely the denture snaps into place
- Soak the overdenture as directed to keep it from drying out and warping
- Bring the attachments in for a check periodically, since the locator components inside them wear down over time and eventually need replacing
Caring for Fixed Implant-Supported Dentures
- Brush at least twice daily as you would with natural teeth, paying close attention to the gumline where the bridge meets the tissue
- Use a water flosser or interdental brush designed for implant bridges to clean underneath the restoration, since regular floss can’t reach the same way it does with natural teeth
- Keep up with professional dental cleanings on the schedule Dr. Heimke recommends, since plaque buildup around a fixed bridge can lead to peri-implant issues
- Avoid using your fixed bridge to bite down on very hard foods like ice or hard candy, which can stress the restoration over time
- Watch for any looseness, changes in bite, or discomfort and call our office right away, since a fixed bridge isn’t meant to shift and any movement is worth having checked
