How Digital Smile Design Technology Works

Dr. Heimke builds your Digital Smile Design using SmileCloud, an AI-powered design platform. The process starts with a 3D facial scan called RAYFace, which creates a virtual model of your face and captures your bone structure, skin tone, lip line, and facial symmetry. From there, a Medit i900 intraoral scanner captures the precise shape and position of your teeth and bite. If implants are part of your treatment, a Cone Beam CT (CBCT) scan is added to map your jawbone as well.

All of this data is combined into a single digital blueprint, giving Dr. Heimke and your lab an exact plan to work from before any tooth is touched.

Seeing Your Smile Before You Wear It

Once your scans are complete, SmileCloud generates an AI-based smile mock-up in minutes, so you can see a simulation of your new smile aligned with your actual facial proportions right there at your consultation. You can review the shape, size, and color of each tooth and request changes before moving forward.

For clients who want to go a step further, we can 3D print a physical prototype of your design in-office using our SprintRay Pro 2 printer. You’ll wear this test version over your natural teeth, walk to a mirror, speak, and smile, so you know exactly how your new teeth will look and feel before any permanent preparation begins.

From Digital Plan to Finished Smile

Once you approve your design, whether on screen or in the physical prototype, that data is sent to our lab, where it’s refined using Exocad design software and handcrafted into your final porcelain restorations. The result is a smile that was planned around your face from the very first scan, not guessed at along the way.
